Why should I take part on the CBIG website?

As part of your yearly CBIG membership dues, you may have a Member Page in the Portfolio section of the CBIG website. Your Member Page includes one image of your children's illustration work and your professional information.

CBIG promotes its members in the children's book publishing industry, and everyone is encouraged to keep his/her Member Page up-to-date.

* Note on Late Membership: New members who join CBIG after September 1st and want a Member Page for 2011 will be subject to a $10.00 fee in addition to membership dues. This is because CBIG is a purely volunteer organization, and the last quarter of the year is a busy time for us as we organize our Annual Portfolio Review event. Joining CBIG earlier in the membership year, and renewing January, is encouraged and recommended.

Renewing in January is best, because then your Member Page and published books will remain on the site the whole year. Lapsed members will be removed from the site in January, and put back on when they renew. So if you keep your membership continuous it's easier for us and for you.

Published books page:

The published books page of the site, http://cbig-nyc.com/publishedbooks.html, shows children's books by current CBIG members. It shows thumbnails of book covers with links to Amazon (or a different link if you prefer). If the book is not on Amazon or some other link that you provide, the link will go to the member's Web site that's listed on their member page. If there is some other link you prefer, please send it. Only one link per book is possible, but if you have three books, they can each have a different link.

Please provide an image of  the book cover of 120 x 120 pixels, 72dpi, .jpg or .gif. Books must be published and list you as illustrator, author-illustrator, or author and must be for the children's market (they don't have to be picture books).  Maximum three books per member due to space. Recent releases (within 6 mos.), and soon-to-come out books will be highlighted--let us know. Books will only be posted if you send the image. Allow up to two weeks for the books to be posted. (Note: Posts are subject to CBIG's discretion.)

I am a CBIG member but don't have the login info for the My CBIG section. What do I do?

Email webmaster@cbig-nyc.com, and the webmaster will email back the username/password. Please be patient for a reply, since this is not automated and sometimes the webmaster must confirm your membership status before writing back. (Login info is reset at the beginning of the membership year and is emailed to current CBIG members.)

What do I submit, and where do I send my Member Page image(s) and info?

Submit all updates and info/images to webmaster@cbig-nyc.com.
Please make sure all your image files are in the appropriate formats described below.

Your Artwork Image

- Via Snail Mail:
Send a clear color photocopy or printout, maximum size 8.5"x11" (We'll scan it for you!). Do NOT send original art.

- Via Email
:
Size your main art image to 360x360 pixels (5"x5"). Even if your image is not square, the canvas size should be exactly this size (use white space to fill in).
Please label your main image file with your name, i.e. "lastname_firstname.jpg" so it doesn't get lost!
The corresponding thumbnail image should be sized to exactly 75x75 pixels. Label your thumbnail file as "lastname_th.jpg"
All emailed images should be jpegs in RGB format at 72 dpi resolution.

Multi-image portfolios

Because the site is being redeveloped, at present (Jan. 2011), we are not currently offering the fee-based multi-image portfolios. If you already have one, you may update the art/bio. Large images should be sent as jpgs, 360x360 pixels (5x5"). The images should be exactly this size even if the canvas is not square. Corresponding thumbnails should be 75x75 pixels, 72dpi. Please label the main image files in the order you want them shown, i.e., lastname1.jpg, lastname2.jpg. Corresponding thumbnails should be labeled lastname1_th.jpg, lastname2_.jpg etc. Please use all lower case letters.

These images should be attached to an email with the following professional info...

(If you are updating images and the bio/contact info is the same as before, just say so.)

Scanning

If you need scanning, the first image is free and after that there will be a $5 charge per scan.
