A native New Yorker, April Kim Tonin is an illustrator, museum educator and administrator, with over twenty-five years of experience in the arts. As a professional illustrator, Tonin has produced work for educational and non-profit organizations, publications, private and corporate clients, and political campaigns. Her work has been published by Send Chinatown Love, the Union of Concerned Scientists, The Lily (a division of The Washington Post), and Time Out New York. Tonin’s work is in the collection of the Museum of the City of New York, as well as private collections. Tonin is also a member of Women Who Draw and the Academy for Teachers.
Tonin is the Ayesha Bulchandani Head of Education and Public Engagement at the Frick Collection. She is the former Maude and Rodney Starkey Deputy Director, Education, at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD). Prior to her role at MAD, Tonin was the Director of Visual Education for fourteen years at the Nightingale-Bamford School in New York City. Tonin began her museum career at The Museum of Modern Art, where she worked in various roles for more than eleven years in the Education Department. Tonin received her M.A. in Art History from Columbia University, and her B.A. in Fine Arts and French from Mount Holyoke College.
